Elephant Dust Bath in Warm Backlit Air
elephant · dust bath · backlight · animal behavior
An adult African elephant takes a dust bath on an open patch of dry ground, with another elephant visible softly in the background. Photograph in 16:9 landscape for a nature photo essay, placing the main subject just left of center so the drifting dust plume has room to expand toward the right. Low afternoon backlight turns airborne particles golden while preserving detailed gray skin and the natural curve of the raised trunk. Include scuffed earth, footprints, and sparse brittle grass near the feet. Use a fast exposure to define the finest dust near the animal, allowing the outer cloud to soften gradually. Convey comfortable self-care behavior rather than aggression or alarm.
