Square White Calla Lily Still Life with a Black Velvet Field
square floral · black velvet · botanical still life · soft gradient
Photograph one white calla lily in a 1:1 square composition suitable for a social post or gallery artwork. Place the blossom slightly above center against black velvet, keeping the fabric completely out of focus so it reads as a continuous black background. Use a large overhead diffuser and a small white bounce card to form a bright, soft light gradient across the petal. Echo Barnett Newman's vertical zip with a thin luminous edge on the nearly straight stem beneath the flower, rather than introducing another object. Preserve natural ivory detail in the spadix, subtle petal grain, and generous dark margins, with no visible support or vase.
